Professor Mary Phillips of the Department of African & African American Studies at Lehman College, presented some of her work from her dissertation, Sister Revolutionaries: The Leadership of Ericka Huggins and Elaine Brown in the Black Panther Party on March 13, 2013. She focused on how Ericka Huggins influenced and transformed evolving gender conventions in the Black Panther Party. The study validates Huggins as an intellectual whose thoughts and actions have been critical in broadening gender politics in the Black Panther Party and supporting a distinguishable and unique black feminist politics.
